Update: 07/08/2024

Mobile Guardian experienced a security incident that involved unauthorised access to our Platform on the 4th of August.

Our security team halted services immediately in order to prevent further disruption by the perpetrator.

Investigation Findings

Our investigation into the matter has determined that a limited number of iOS devices were unenrolled from our Platform. In our initial incident report we stated that both iOS and Chrome OS devices were accessed by the perpetrator. However, this is not the case.

A limited number of iOS devices were unenrolled and the perpetrator attempted to unenrol Chrome OS devices, however, they were not able to due to the enrolment process of Chrome OS devices.

Furthermore, internal and third party investigations into previous vulnerabilities of the Mobile Guardian Platform are confirmed to have been resolved and no longer pose a risk.

This is not related to an error in configuration that occurred on the 30th of July which affected Mobile Guardian iPads on our Singapore instance only.

What Was Impacted

Currently our investigation indicates that Mobile Guardian experienced a security incident that affected users globally, including on the North America, European, and Singapore instances.

This resulted in a small percentage of iOS devices to be unenrolled from Mobile Guardian and in some cases devices wiped remotely. There is no evidence to suggest that the perpetrator had access to users’ data.

What We Are Doing

As a result of the breach, Mobile Guardian promptly halted our services to prevent further unauthorised access. Users are not currently able to log in to the Mobile Guardian Platform and students will experience restricted access on their devices.

We will continue to provide updates here as more information becomes available to us on this page.

Required Next Steps

Students are to contact their local IT administrator to re-activate the device once Mobile Guardian services have been restored.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your account please contact us at support@mobileguardian.com or visit our Knowledge Base.

We want to assure you that we are not taking this matter lightly. Our team is working tirelessly to restore the expected functionality to affected devices.

We understand how critical Mobile Guardian is to our educational institutions and we are fully committed to rectifying this issue. We want to express our deepest apologies for any inconvenience this will have caused.

Sincerely,

The Mobile Guardian Team
